Over spring break, the kids and I picked up Janet and kids and headed to Grandma's house for a short visit. Our timing was perfect because we left the day the first spring snowstorm hit Minnesota. Luckily, for us the roads were decent for all but the 20-25 miles we had to drive on the interstate. At least, I think so. Janet did all the driving.
The kids and I had fun. It was nice to sit around and talk with Grandma. Russell and Meghan loved having Brooke, Haley and Royal to play with. The also enjoyed seeing all their favorite toys (the blue crank up tow truck) and having almost all of a basement to run around in. They were pretty well behaved. They also had lots of fun with Uncle Forrest and Aunt Susan because they got tossed up in the air and each got a toy to bring home.
Grandma was very popular. She would read books. She let them watch Curious George. She found Don't Eat Pete, and brought out M&Ms to play it. She had morning AND afternoon snack AND nightly treat (though the kids went to bed too early a couple nights and missed it). She even let them play her organ. The only down side was that she only had Polly Pocket and My Little Pony Coloring Books, and Russell really wanted a coloring book with machines. At least My Little Ponies has a dragon.
I have always loved going to Grandma and Grandpa's house. It always seemed like an extra special place. I really wanted to bring all the books home with me so that I can read them, but at the rate I'm going I would be reading for a very long time.
